Shorty, Do Your Thing

So when I'm home on a Friday night watching TCM with nothing better to do and hankering for a project, I bake. Pathetic? Wait until you try my shortbread. It's from the back of the Canada Corn Starch box. I made plain ones, and then I chopped up some craisins and mixed in a few to half the batch. Then, my dad (pictured below) had the idea to add some lavender, which I heaped into the remaining mixture by the bushel load. I went a bit too heavy with it; the lavender ones taste like munching on a field of flowers. Bearing my creative additions, I have considered the recipe tried and true for a number of years now.

  1. While it's been a while since I've had a shortbread cookie, I can honestly say that these shortbread cookies surpass my memories of other (inferior) shortbread cookies, and among the best cookies I've ever eaten.

  2. I thought Zicheng was going to say, “While it's been a while since I've...” seen Lothar, “I can honestly say that I don't miss him all that much” or something. But he was talking about the cookies and didn't mention poor Mr Ulrich.

  3. Whoops, I didn't realise that the title "Shorty, do your thing" was actually referring (ironically, obviously) to Lothar, as opposed to shortbread cookies, as I first thought.

What can I say about Lothar? I didn't know him very well, but I think his is a very nice man. We certainly have our share of things in common, food, photography. Shall we devote a blog about him? We can begin the surely long process of blog christening now:

    Lindsay's Pops

    Lo, Thar (there), It's Lothar!

Lothar, How We Loathe To Be Apart

    The Original L-Dog

The Big Man They Call "Shorty"

  4. haha oh man... actually, the title was a reference to a lyric in the Wu Tang song Gravel Pit. but i suppose my title's a triple threat. and i'm glad you liked them Zed. (in case you guys we're wondering, I gave Zed some samples of these cookies on Sat. hence, he knows how this particular batch tastes). I'm going to be making some pumpkin or gingerbread cookies soon. stay tuned..

  5. I'm craving some shortbread cookies. I bought some President's Choice brand "Best Shortbread Cookie in the World" shortbread cookies, but I prefer to soft texture that yours have.
